Chelsea legend John Terry has finally complete a move to Aston Villa after his contract at Stamford Bridge officially expire at the start of the summer transfer window.
The championship club confirmed to have sealed the signing of the former England captain on a one-year contract.
The defender has announced that he would move on from the west London club at the end of last season after representing the club for 19 campaigns.
A handful of clubs, including Birmingham City and West Brom, have shown interest in the veteran defender despite being 36 years already.
However, it is known that Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce has been in talks with Terry for several weeks, and the club have beaten all others to get the player’s signature in the lead-up to their 2017/18 Championship campaign.
John, who made his debut in 1998 for Chelsea, enjoyed a successful career with the club. He won four Premier League titles, five FA Cups, three League Cups, as well as the Champions League and Europa League before his departure.
And Terry, speaking about the move, said:
‘It’s a club I have admired from afar for many years – there are fantastic facilities at Bodymoor Heath, Villa Park is one of the finest stadiums in the country.
‘There are good players here, with an experienced and successful manager in Steve Bruce.
‘I can’t wait to get started now and look to help the squad achieve something special this season.’
