Premier League leaders Liverpool have been dealt an injury blow following the news that Reds playmaker Xerdan Shaqiri has been ruled of his country’s qualifying games for Euro 2020.
Shaqiri has pulled out of the Switzerland squad after a painful inflammation in his groin area.
He will miss the upcoming games against Georgia and Denmark.
Xerdan Shaqiri joined Liverpool from Stoke City for around £13.5m at the start of the season and he has been in good form for the Reds in their quest for major honours in two competitions especially the Premier League.
The Swiss international star was unable to prevent Stoke City from suffering relegation from the Premier League in the last campaign and Liverpool capitalised on that to secure his transfer from the Potters.
Liverpool were able to sign him after they activated the release clause in his then contract at the Britannia Stadium.
In his first season at Liverpool, Xerdan Shaqiri has contributed a great deal to the Reds’ quest to win the Premier League for the first time in their history.
Shaqiri played his best game in a Liverpool shirt when he came off the bench to lead the Reds to a 3-1 home win over rivals Manchester United.
The former Bayern Munich and Inter Milan player was subbed on in the second half and he scored twice against Manchester United to give his side victory.
