EPL: Klopp Plays Down Firmino Injury

Roberto Firmino

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has downplayed the extent of the injury suffered by star forward Roberto Firmino after the Brazilian national team player missed the league game against basement club Huddersfield Town.

The Reds pummelled the Terriers 5-0 at home in their second league meeting of the season without Firmino in the squad.

When asked about his absence during his interview just before the start of the Terriers game, Klopp told Sky Sports reporters that Firmino missed the Huddersfield Town game with a minor muscle injury.

The German tactician also added that he will be assessed before the Barcelona game on Wednesday night.

Klopp doesn’t expect him to miss the first leg of the Reds’ Champions League outing with Spanish champions Barcelona.

Without Firmino in his squad, the other two players from the famed Liverpool front trio stepped up to the plate.

Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah scored two goals each against Huddersfield Town with their goals coming either side of the halftime interval.

Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita had earlier set the team on their way to victory with an early goal.

It’s the fastest Liverpool goal in the Premier League era and it was scored after 15 seconds after the Guinean star pounced on a mistake from Huddersfield Town defender Jon Gorenc Stankovic.

Liverpool have secured top spot on the Premier League table as a result of the thumping victory over the Terriers.
