€38m-rated striker move to Chelsea suffers setback …

Gonzalo Higuain

Premier League giants Chelsea have been heavily linked with a move for Juventus loanee Gonzalo Higuain.

The Argentine international star is on a season-long loan deal at seven-time European champions AC Milan from Italian champions Juventus.

Gonzalo Higuain became surplus to requirements at Juventus at the start of the season following the club-record signing of Portuguese tactician Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo swapped Real Madrid for Juventus in a deal worth an initial fee of around €100m and his transfer led to the exit of Gonzalo Higuain.

According to the Daily Express, Maurizio Sarri wants Chelsea to sign Gonzalo Higuain but senior club officials are not keen on the transfer because of the financial figures involved.

The 31-year-old was signed on loan by AC Milan for €16m with the option of signing him permanently for €38m and the Blues would have to replace the Italians if they want to sign the striker.

Chelsea officials are not willing to commit to that deal due to the fact that it has no resale value.

Blues boss Maurizio Sarri is a big fan of Gonzalo Higuain having worked with him while he was the Napoli manager.

Higuain scored 36 league goals for Napoli during his sole campaign with Sarri.
