According to The Times, Premier League Champions Chelsea have appointed a temporary replacement for former Sporting Director Michael Emenalo.
The West London club have had to cope without a sporting director since the former Super Eagles defender left Stamford Bridge at the beginning of November but have now appointed their head of scouting department Scott McLachlan as their temporary director to head up the team’s sporting direction.
The Nigerian had been in his role for more than a 10 years and was a major figure at the London club, so finding a suitable long-term replacement is not an easy job and the decision will be taken seriously by the club’s Chiefs.
Head Scout McLachlan may eventually be the man the Blues choose in the long term, but that decision has not been finalized. The new man will oversee transfer operations in the winter transfer window, which could be a hectic month for the Premier League Champions.
Chelsea tactician Antonio Conte is forcing for more reinforcement after being let down by Emenalo’s attempts in the summer, and the team seems thin, particularly in attack where Belgium international striker Michy Batshuayi’s future is under severe doubt.
Some shrewd transfer in the New Year could see the new man underlining himself as a taker for the position permanently.
