Difficult To Keep £105m Liverpool Target At Benfica

Portuguese giants Benfica will find it hard to keep young forward Joao Felix at the club according to the club’s sporting director Rui Costa.

The former Benfica playmaker told Italian media portal Tuttosport that the club wants to keep Joao Felix amidst the intense transfer interest from several European clubs including Premier League giants Liverpool.

Joao Felix has emerged as one of the most sought-after players in European football after breaking into the Benfica first team this season.

It was reported that Benfica turned down a big bid of £61m from Merseyside giants Liverpool towards the end of last year and that the Portuguese giants will only entertain a transfer offer that meets the £105m release clause in his current contract.

The 19-year-old signed a new contract towards the end of 2018 and that boosted his release clause to the aforementioned amount.

Joao Felix has drawn comparisons with previous legends of the game like Rui Costa and Brazilian World Cup winner Kaka.

The young Portuguese attacker has scored 10 goals and provided four assists in 18 appearances in the league since his debut last year.

In total, he has netted 11 times and provided four assists in 27 games for Benfica this term in all competitions.
