Conte Urged To Sign Player As Competition For Chelsea Star When January Comes

Antonio Conte

Wayne Bridge thinks Chelsea should sign another striker as an alternative to Alvaro Morata when the January transfer window comes.

Although Morata had made a great start at his new side by scoring seven goals in eight matches so far, former Chelsea left-back Wayne Bridge believes his old club still lack a direct replacement for departed Diego Costa.

Currently, Chelsea boss Antonio Conte only has Belgian striker Michy Batshuayi to call on as a backup to Alvaro, but Wayne expects the attack department should be looked into at the next opportunity.

The premier league champions made an attempt to secure the services of Fernando Llorente from Swansea towards the end of the summer, but the striker chose to move to Tottenham Hotspur instead.

And even though Bridge didn’t mention any striker he expects Chelsea to focus on this winter, it appears Fernando is the type of player he has in mind.

Speaking to The Sun recently about his former club, Wayne admits Morata is a fantastic player who is ‘quick’ and can score goals with his head and his feet.

But he feels the former Real Madrid striker is quite different from what Chelsea are used to in front of attack, expecting to see a striker like Didier Drogba and Diego Costa that are big and can get defenders bullied.

Bridge said he really loves Morata, but he expects the Chelsea management to sign another striker in January – although the new man does not necessarily need to replace the Spanish striker.
