Following Chelsea’s unpleasant preseason tour and the defeat to Arsenal in the Community Shield, many people from different quarters are already projecting a bad campaign for the premier league champions and are already writing them off of retaining the title this new term.
And well, Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has admitted he agrees with people’s view.
Conte once more talked about his side’s poor work in this summer transfer window after he had already complained severally about how lean his squad is ahead of the upcoming busy campaign.
Even though his side have brought in Willy Caballero, Antonio Rudiger, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Alvaro Morata, as much as nine Chelsea players have departed Stamford Bridge already this summer, and the Italian tactician is understood to need as many as four more new players before the end of the transfer window.
Many Chelsea fans remains optimistic despite it all, considering how they were able to win the title last season despite the ugly incidents that occurred the previous season that saw them finishing tenth in the league table.
But the Chelsea manager, despite successfully winning the premier league trophy in his first season at Stamford Bridge and in England, appears to be losing confidence and thinks it is correct to doubt his side’s credentials this time around:
‘If you have to give your evaluation on the card (on paper) it is right. It is quite right not to put us to be a favourite,’ he said.
