Conte: This Is Why I Haven’t Given Morata A Starting Berth

Alvaro Morata

Spanish striker Alvaro Morata is yet to start for Chelsea after completing his £70Million move from Real Madrid.

And the club’s boss Antonio Conte, giving his reasons for this, said it is because adapting to his style of play as a forward is ‘more difficult’ than in other roles.

The Spain international has made three appearances for Chelsea since he moved in to join them last month, and he emerged from the bench in his side’s Community Shield loss to Arsenal.

Morata replaced Michy Batshauyi in the second half of the game at Wembley, but he unfortunately missed a penalty in the shooutout which attracted lots of criticism on him.

Conte is expected to start Belgian forward Batshuayi when his side clash with Burnley at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, and the former Italy head coach has explained why Alvaro is yet to be given a starting berth.

‘It is something normal both for me and for the players that just start to work me that they need time to adapt to our style of football’ the manager said.

‘[As for Morata], he is working very well and improving a lot in these last ten days. He is beginning to understand what is needed from him during the game. However he needs time to understand our style.’

‘The role of a striker is more difficult to adapt than the other roles.’
