Liverpool should sign a Central defender, central midfielder, and left back. Those are the positions Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has highlighted as needing improvement, and the Reds have the fund available to spend big on improving two of those positions, with whatever’s remaining over going to the third.
If Liverpool targets Virgil van Dijk and Naby Keïta sign as planned, and whichever left sided defender does eventually arrive the club will mean there isn’t much space left to spend elsewhere. That and the well-known list of priorities, but that hasn’t stopped some Liverpool fans wishing for a forward. It hasn’t stopped some former players, either.
Former Liverpool forward Dean Saunders on TalkSport said, “I think [Olivier] Giroud could play for Liverpool.”
He said Klopp need a striker that, when you get stuck, you just toss it in there and he turns it into a goal—the Arsenal forward does that. He’s a top striker, top player and I think he’d be a good signing for the Reds.”
It’s likely that Brazilian Roberto Firmino will lead the line, flanked by two of Sadio Mané, Egyptian Mohamed Salah, and Brazilian Philippe Coutinho. But against lesser teams, if the Reds need a goal late, Sturridge will be the option.
With the Liverpool boss looking happy to continue with the English international, and with the Reds likely to splash in the region of £150M improving at CB, CM, and LB, Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud—or a similar striker—will not arrive. Not this summer transfer window at least.
