AVB will replace Rudi Garcia who stepped down as the Marseille manager at the end of the latest French Ligue 1 season on Friday.

The Portuguese tactician has not been in the dugout since he left Chinese Super League outfit Shanghai SIPG towards the end of 2017.

The 41-year-old was paid around £12.5m yearly while he was with the Chinese club and £7.5m yearly during his penultimate job at Russian side Zenit St. Petersburg.

AVB was the Chelsea manager between 2011 and 2012 and he will earn £12.7m over the next two years at Marseille at £6.35m per year.

The only thing left to sort out is his backroom staffs before an official announcement is made about his appointment.

Marseille missed out on Champions League football for next season after finishing in fifth place at the end of the latest campaign which ended on Friday.
