According to reports, premier league champions Chelsea are set to miss out on sponsorship revenue for wanting to keep ‘Stamford Bridge’ as part of the name of their redeveloped stadium.
Currently, the English heavyweights are working on how they will finance the rebuilding of their stadium.
Earlier this year, the west London club were cleared to begin work on the redevelopment of Stamford Bridge, with planning permission given for a new £60,000 base.
In March, the Mayor of London green lit ambitious designs by popular architects Herzog & de Meuron.
The project is expected to run into £500 Million, and a viable source of revenue to get it financed is by giving away naming rights.
Clubs like Man City and Arsenal have enjoyed huge financial gains by partnering with airlines Etihad and Emirates. Tottenham are also getting set to move to their new stadium, and they also plan giving away naming rights of their new home.
But Chelsea are said to be keen on keeping Stamford Bridge as part of the name and do not intend changing it.
Development is expected to kickoff in 2020 with the new base potentially opening in time for the 2023/24 season.
But before then, next season, the premier league champions are ready to defend the premier league title they won last season and also compete for the Champions League trophy.
