Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech has disclosed that the dominant 3-0 league win over leaders Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium in the month of September was the highlight of his side’s recent unbeaten run.
The North London club’s 19-game unbeaten run, which started since the 4-3 loss to Liverpool on the opening weekend of this league season, came to a halt on Wednesday following a 2-0 home loss to Southampton in the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup.
Cech, who has been an ever present in the Arsenal side for English Premier League (EPL) league duties, picked the game against his former club Chelsea as the standout game during the unbeaten run in a chat with the club’s official website.
In his words, 34-year old Cech said: “We scored goals at the right times, and the moment we scored the first we didn’t stop being active.”
“We didn’t aim to protect a 1-0 lead, we searched for more and sometimes in big games, when you give yourself a two-goal advantage, that is a big mountain for the other team to climb.
“In these big games, any lead can be significant and we really took advantage in the first half – when we had chances, we scored them and that what made the difference.” he concluded.
