Chelsea prepare $80m World record transfer bid for full-back

According to a report in the Times, Chelsea are set to break the world record transfer fee for a defender as they prepare a £61m offer for Juventus full-back Alex Sandro.

Chelsea have been chasing Sandro since last summer but have failed to agree on a price with Juventus despite a lot of negotiations.

However, Chelsea are now set to do whatever is needed to convince the Italian Serie A champions to cash in on the 26-year-old Brazilian.

Reports indicate Sandro was close to agreeing on a new deal with Juventus which led the West London club to slow down their chase but the defender is yet to agree on a new contract, which has given fresh hope to Chelsea.

Antonio Conte is keen to sign Sandro to play in the left wing-back position as he looks to reinforce his squad before the new season starts.

The transfer for Sandro would break the record paid for a defender which is currently held by rivals Manchester City, who paid £52m for the services of French full-back Benjamin Mendy this summer transfer window.

The bid may prove to be too good to turn down for Juventus who have tried their very best to convince Sandro to remain at Juventus.
