Chelsea player ratings, match statistics and results

Chelsea overcame the pressure posed by their London rival Tottenham’s who claimed a 4-0 victory over Watford at White Hart Lane as the Blues maintained their 7 point gap at the top of the Premier League log with a crucial 1-3 away win over hosts AFC Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.

The Blues used the game to demonstrate their Champions character as they edged closer to the Premier League crown.

In all it was a positive game for the visitors as Marcos Alonso put the game beyond doubt with a superb curling free-kick from the edge of the box to make it 1-3 for Chelsea in the 68th minutes of the second half.

We take a look at the player ratings of Chelsea players as regards to their individual performance in the game.

Goalkeeper

Thibaut Courtois 6.0

The Belgian shot stopper had a moderate game in between the sticks as he made some vital saves in the game. He could do little to prevent King’s goal as it took a deflection from David Luiz before going into the net.

 Defenders                                                                

César Azpilicueta 6.5                         

The Spaniard was solid in defending as he checked the run of his marker although the game. Made a great header (from a clearance) to deny Bournemouth a chance to nod home against Thibaut Courtois in goal.

David Luiz 6.0

He made some good interceptions in the game and was lively going forward but was unconvincing in defending especially on one on one situation particularly in the first half. A moderate game from the Chelsea center half.

Gary Cahill 6.5

The defender tidied up things well at the back and played his Captain’s role very much with decent balls from the back as the visitors (Chelsea) sought to initiate from the back four.

Midfielders

Victor Moses 7.0  

The Nigerian was impressive (productive) on the right wing back as he offered Chelsea some room in the wide positions. He was menacing in transition against the host. He made a great assist that led to Chelsea’s opener off Diego Costa to going in for an own goal from Adam Smith.

Nemanja Matic 6.5

The Serbian had good presence in midfield but dwelt on the ball much longer in the game. Matic Showed flair and willingness to join the Chelsea attacking force in transition.

N’golo Kante 6.5

The Frenchman was impressive as always in midfield as he helped shut things down in the middle of the park. He was good on the ball and showed great vision to spot the run of (Eden) Hazard in the first half of the game as the Belgian doubled Chelsea’s lead from his assist.

Marcos Alonso 7.0

He was good going forward as he made some positive runs along the left channel. The defender was on hand to bend a curling free-kick over the Bournemouth wall to seal the game for Chelsea in style.

Attackers
Eden Hazard 7.5

The Belgian was a constant threat to the opposing side as his forward plays and dribbling runs caused the host lots of problems in the game.Great acceleration to get on to the end of Kante’s long range pass beats the goalkeeper under pressure to slot into the empty net for Chelsea second goal of the game.

Diego Costa 5.5  

The forward was involved in the first goal as his shot cannoned off Adam Smith to go in for an own goal in the game. Made some couple of wrong passes but fought hard although the game for Chelsea.

Pedro Rodriguez 6.5  

The Spaniard showed pace and positive intent in the game. He looked dangerous on the ball and was on hand to help out in defensive duties. He made some good attacking forays as well in the match.

Substitutes
Francesc Fabregas 4.0  

The Spaniard came on for Chelsea as the Blues sought to kill of the game. Great awareness and presence from the midfield star who added more purpose and flow to Chelsea’s play.

Willian Borges N/A

The Brazilian came on late to replace Pedro Rodriguez as the game gradually drew to a close. He made some few good touches and movement on the ball with few time left in the clock.

Kurt Zouma N/A

The Frenchman replaced Victor Moses in injury time as Chelsea was shutting the host down with eye on the next game (United scalp) as Zouma made a run out in the game.
