Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has recalled midfielder Charlie Colkett from Bristol Rovers
The youngster joined the League One outfit last summer on a season long deal but his loan deal has been cut short by the Blues.
Rovers boss Darell Clarke revealed Colkett has returned to his parent club after activated the clause to recall him despite spending on a half season.
Clarke told the Bristol Post: “It’s disappointing to lose Charlie but we have a great relationship with Chelsea and I understand where they are coming from.
“I believe he would have played a fair amount of games for us between now and the end of the season.
“He’s been recalled and I wish him all the best because he is a fantastic lad, who is a credit to Chelsea Football Club.
“With a bit of work on the defensive side of his game he will go on to be a really top class player.
“We’re pleased to have played a small part in his development.”
The 20-year-old midfielder featured 17 times for the Rovers, scoring three goals for them.
Colkett joined Chelsea in 2007 as an under-11 level star from Charlton Athletic and progressed through the ranks before being sent on loan to Bristol Rovers where he has impressed the manager.
The decision to recall the youngster may be due to the situation of Loftus-Cheek who could be sent on loan to get playing time as Conte will look to have a sizeable number of youth stars in his squad.
