Manchester United assistant coach Michael Carrick has revealed the first set of persons to be aware of the retirement of former manager Alex Ferguson before the knowledge of the public.
Arguably one of the greatest managers that have ever lived, Ferguson retired as United’s manager in 2013 with a parting gift of a Premier League title.
Carrick who had played under the Scottish manager disclosed that the players were informed of the boss’ decision earlier enough.
According to him, the report of his retirement first came as a rumour until the boss came to confirm it to the team in what turned out to be an emotional meeting.
Carrick explained that it was not an easy decision to make by the manager and telling the team as well a difficult one for him. Ferguson had also explained the need for him to have time with his wife and family.
It was emotional according to the United’s assistant coach and that could have propelled the players to giving their best to ensure the manager leaves the stage on a high with a Premier League title.
It has been difficult for the Red Devils to fill the shoes of the former boss having signed three managers since his departure in 2013.
