Manchester United had another brilliant performance yesterday against Huddersfield at Old Trafford as they thrashed the struggling Premier League side by 3-1.
Rejuvenated / happy Pogba scored twice but it was another rejuvenated midfielder Nemanja Matic who opened the scoring in the 28th minute.
The Serbian international has endured a very woeful start to the season but Solskjaer seems to have helped him regain his confidence.
The former Chelsea star finds the back of the net from close range to give the Red Devils a very deserving lead.
Paul Pogba proved his worth with another breathtaking performance throughout the game. The former Juventus man found Jonas Lossl’s net in the 64th and 76th minutes respectively.
The Red Devils conceded a late goal but it wasn’t enough to prevent them from picking three points for the second time under their short-term manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
With the result against Huddersfield, United still remain in the sixth position, but they’ve reduced the gap between them and Arsenal to just six points.
IS TOP-FOUR FINISH STILL ACHIEVABLE FOR SOLSKJAER’S MEN
The team face a huge task to qualify for next season’s Champions League as they are eight points behind Chelsea who occupy the last qualifying spot (the fourth position).
The question many Manchester United supporters are asking themselves is if they would be able to end the season among the top-four clubs.
In a way to help the Red Devils faithfuls lessen their worries and doubts, we have come up with the reason why they should be hopeful.
EXCITING FOOTBALL AND WONDERFUL ATMOSPHERE
Since the Norwegian took over from José Mourinho last week, there have been tremendous changes at Old Trafford. The dressing room is now peaceful and fans are wearing beautiful smiling faces. All of these signal that there are better days ahead.
In his first interview with the press, Solskjaer revealed his desire to bring back the attacking flare the club were known for during Alex Ferguson’s time.
So far so good, he’s been able to achieve it. His players have scored 8 goals in just two matches.
They have created more chances than they did in Mourinho’s last five games as manager at Old Trafford. This is another reassurance that the team are on the right path to greatness.
SOLSKJAER MUST REINFORCE THE DEFENCE
It’s obvious the attackers have up their game and are firing from all cylinder, but the same can’t be said about the defence.
As much as we would love to commend them for conceding just two goals in two matches, there is always room for improvement.
Solskjaer must make his defenders understand the importance of clean sheets to team’s confidence.
If it means signing new defenders in the winter transfer market, the former Molde’s manager shouldn’t hesitate to splash cash on world-class centre-backs as long as they will help him secure a place in next year’s Champions League competition
