Liverpool were eventually ousted from the EFL Cup last night by Southampton. Well, after brilliant performances in both the semi final legs, we can agree that The Saints deserved to move to the final.
Since the start of this year The Reds have been glaringly horrific and have only managed to win just one game this month. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp must definitely reinforce the team before the winter transfer window closes, and reports are once again linking him with a move for Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Julian Brandt.
Few days back, James Pearce of Liverpool Echo claimed that Klopp is a huge fan of the 20-year-old attacker, and that he wanted to sign him this month. But the Bundesliga club have not been willing to let the German international leave and Jurgen is expected to try again next summer.
On the other hand however, just yesterday, The Guardian published a slightly different report where they stated that the Merseysiders are most likely to spend before the transfer window’s closure next week and coach Klopp has one eye on Julian Brandt.
Brandt can play anywhere in the attacking third and he has already featured in over 100 games for Bayer Leverkusen. This season so far in 17 league appearances, he has scored twice and provided six assists.
Earlier this month SportBild reported that the Bundesliga side want the same fee for Brandt that Schalke got for selling Leroy Sane to Manchester City, which is €50million.
