North London side Arsenal have been linked again with West Ham and French star Dmitri Payet ahead of the mid-season transfer window, which opens the next month.
Payet has been a sensational signing for his London club since he signed for a fee believed to be around £12 million from French side Olympique Marseille in the summer of 2015. His performances from last season was thereafter rewarded with a new 5-year deal worth £125,000 weekly before the start of the current season.
The present season has however not gone as plan for West Ham, who moved from their Upton Park ground to the Olympic Stadium, with the team languishing in the bottom half of the table and just a point outside the relegation zone prompting speculation that Payet could leave the club despite the fact that he has maintained his level of performance for his team amidst the collective struggle for form.
29-year old Payet, who has a long-term admirer in Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, was earlier linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium in the summer but that didn’t eventually materialise. Popular newspaper outlet is however reporting that the threat of relegation hovering over West Ham could work in Arsenal’s favour as they attempt to land their ‘rumoured’ target.
