Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is ready to pounce on the signature of Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez after completing a record move for Alexandre Lacazette, according to reports.
The Gunners have made efforts to bring in quality players this summer as part of plans to better their chances in the Premier League next season following a dismal outing that saw them miss out of the Champions League spot last season.
Having completed a record move for Lacazette, Arsene Wenger is believed to be keen on signing Mahrez after missing out on his signature last summer.
Reports in the Independent claim that Wenger has intensified efforts to sign the Algerian winger in order to bolster his squad this summer.
The 25-year-old has already admitted that he wants to leave the King Power stadium this summer after choosing to remain at the club last summer despite keen interest from several clubs.
The likes of Barcelona and Paris Saint Germain have also been linked with a move for Mahrez but it is understood that the Gunners’ interest in the winger is the most serious.
There are reports that Leicester City will be holding out for a fee around £35million and will move for Watford forward, Troy Deeney.
When asked about the possibility of signing Riyad Mahrez, Arsene Wenger told beIN Sports: ‘Have we made a bid for him? No. Not yet. Not yet means it could happen, it could not happen.
‘I think he had a huge impact at Leicester when they won the championship, like everybody else.
‘It’s been a different season this year but it doesn’t take anything away from his qualities.’
