Arsene Wenger was excited with Arsenal’s positive display but has suggested that he will talk to Alexis Sanchez over the striker’s decision to take penalty duties from Santi Cazorla in win against Hull.
Bournemouth goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic saved low down to his right, the second of four penalties Arsenal have missed this season.
Cazorla is Arsenal’s regular penalty taker, but had to watch as Sanchez spurned the chance to add gloss to the victory.
Whilst it did not affect the result Wenger said he wants to understand why it was that the pre-match order was not followed.
“Santi was down to taking it,” Wenger told the BBC. “I don’t know why it did not happen, they have pecking order, it was not planned for Sanchez to take it.
“I want to know what happened and for it not to happen again. Overall anyone can miss a penalty, we have to accept that.”
Wenger was pleased with what he saw after coming through a tough Champions League battle and believes the missed penalty sharpened the Gunners’ focus.
“I feel overall it was a positive performance after playing away in the Champions League and away again today,” Wenger added.
“We started well, dominated and were fluent. They defended well but overall we managed to score the goal then after the missed penalty we had to be serious and score the next goal.”
