Arsenal manager Unai Emery is still in search of Danny Welbeck’s replacement and reports emanating from Senegal — the home country of Stade Rennais’ winger Ismaila Sarr — claimed that he is interested in signing the youngster in January.
According to Senegalese media outlet Wiwsport.com, the former Paris St-German manager is happy with the 20-year-old’s performances in Europa League group stage and he wants him at the Emirates stadium in the next transfer market.
In the same vein, the Ligue 1 side are reportedly in the market for a new goalkeeper who would replace their outgoing first choice goalie Tomas Koubek.
Koubek is set to part ways with the team, hence, Stade Rennais are desperately in search of a capable replacement.
Having known what the Ligue 1 needed, Emery is reportedly set to offer his third choice goaltender Emi Martinez as a makeshift for Ismail Sarr’s signature.
Martinez hasn’t suit up for the Gunners this season as a result of intense competition from experienced Petr Cech and Bernd Leno and he needs to move elsewhere for the sake of his career.
Apart from offering Martinez, the media outlet also suggests that Emery is willing to add €16m to his bid.
DOES HE WORTH IT?
Sarr is just 20 years of age, offering a 26-year-old unused goalkeeper for his signature looks like a great deal if you would ask me.
Considering the player’s recent form, you would agree with me that Emery is going to benefit more from his services than keeping Emi Martinez at the Emirates stadium.
Sarr has played 23 matches for Stade Rennais in all competitions this season and he was involved in 14 goals.
Eight goals and six assists are no small achievement and he will surely get better should he join the Premier League giants in January.
Sarr will be more than Welbeck’s replacement for the Emirates Stadium outfits. This is because he possesses more pace, skills and high converting rate than the England international.
WILL RENNAIS RELEASE HIM IN JANUARY?
Arsenal might fail to capture the youngster’s service in the upcoming transaction period as Rennais might fail to let him go.
His current form for the club is just too electrifying that they would release him in January irrespective of the offer from Arsenal.
His wonderful goalscoring abilities helped them qualify to the knockout stages of the Europa competition and they won’t think of sanctioning his move to Arsenal or any club in the winter market.
However, the Gunners might stand a chance to lure him to the Emirates stadium if Sven Mislintant — the head of recruitment — is ready to release more money to fund the bid
