Arsenal suffer transfer setback as City rivals Spurs join race for £50million star

Riyad Mahrez

North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are on a transfer collision course for LeicesterCity star Riyad Mahrez.

Spurs are the only English club not to have made a signing during this transfer window so far.

But they have enquired Algeria playmaker Riyad Mahrez, who wants to quit the King Power Stadium this summer transfer window.

Serie A side AS Roma have had two offers rejected and have said that they won’t be submitting a third offer, leaving the door open for Tottenham.

But the Gunners are also keen on the 2016 PFA Player of the Year and they will make a move if Ligue 1 side Monaco refuse to sell Thomas Lemar to them.

Leicester City have reportedly placed a £50million price-tag on the Algerian, who wants to quit the former Premier League champions to play in the UEFA Champions League.

He would get that at White Hart Lane, after Tottenham finished runners-up last campaign, but would have to wait to dine at Europe’s top table with London rivals Arsenal.

Mahrez netted 10 goals and assisted seven as the Foxes recovered from a dreadful start to survive the drop last term.

The Leicester City star released a statement in May declaring that he wants to quit the club.
