Arsenal are ready to smash their transfer record with a £60 million for Southampton defender Virgil van dijk, according to reports.
The Saints defender has been tipped to make a move to a bigger club since last summer, with reports that a host of clubs in Premier League are vying for his signature.
The likes of Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea are all looking at the possibility of signing the Dutch defender who has proved his worth in England, churning out solid displays for Southampton.
Reports in The Sun claim that Arsenal are considering a move for the Van Dijk and will have to break their transfer record for the defender due to reports that the centre-back will cost a fee in the region of £60 million.
Liverpool were believed to be at the fore front of the transfer but were forced to pull out of the deal after Southampton got infuriated by the Reds approach for the defender.
Although, it is understood that Van Dijk will prefer to sign for Liverpool the strained relationship between the Saints and Liverpool could scupper a deal.
