According to reports, North London club Arsenal have commenced formal transfer talks with German Bundesliga giant Borussia Dortmund over the transfer of France international striker Olivier Giroud.

Popular British tabloid The Mirror claim the Bundesliga club sees Giroud, 30, as a potential replacement for out-going Gabonese Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who is a prime transfer target for top European clubs including Chelsea this summer transfer window.

Reports indicate that the Arsenal striker is valued at around £35million by the North London club and Borussia Dortmund have opened discussions over a summer move, as Chelsea’s pursuit of the African gathers momentum.

It was also reported that the Bundesliga club is Giroud’s favorite destination, despite the fact he has formerly been linked with Premier League sides like West Ham and Everton.

The thirty-year-old forward was used sparingly by Arsene Wenger last season, and he only played 11 Premier League matches.

However, the Frenchman still managed to net 16 goals in the 2016-17 season, and he has been prolific since he joined the Emirate club five years ago.

Olivier Giroud joined Arsenal in the summer of 2012 in a £10million transfer from Ligue one side Montpellier, and he has since featured in 227 league and cup games, which has resulted in 98 goals.
