Tottenham Hotspurs manager Mauricio Pochettino has stated that his Belgian defender Toby Alderweireld is in contention to return back to action ahead of Saturday’s English Premier League (EPL) clash with Swansea City at White Hart Lane on Saturday afternoon.
Pochettino made this known during his latest pre-match press conference ahead of the game with American coach Bob Bradley’s side as he added that the 27-year old defender was involved in the team’s training sessions throughout the week thereby stepping up his bid to make a comeback since suffering a knee injury during last month’s 1-1 draw with Midlands club West Brom at the Hawthorns.
Toby Alderweireld was involved during the week in the training sessions,” Pochettino said on Friday, as quoted by the official Tottenham website. “We are very happy with his evolution but it’s still a small thing that we are not sure about and we need to assess tomorrow if he can be available.
Speaking during the aforementioned press conference on Friday about the former Atletico Madrid and Southampton man, Pochettino was quoted via the club’s official website as follows: “Toby Alderweireld was involved during the week in the training sessions.”
“We are very happy with his evolution but it’s still a small thing that we are not sure about and we need to assess tomorrow if he can be available.
“It’s the same problem – the injury he got against West Brom. His evolution is very good, now he’s been involved in training during the week but still he feels that it’s not 100 per cent. But we’ll see tomorrow.” he concluded.
