Apart from Lindelof, Manchester United have also been looking to sign Benfica right back Nelson Semedo in this winter transfer window. However, latest reports indicates that the Portuguese international will not be joining this January.
Nevertheless, the Old Trafford club have reportedly reached an agreement with Benfica which will see the 23-year-old classic defender arrive Old Trafford in the summer.
London Evening Standard‘s Goncalo Lopes – a Portuguese journalist, stated:
“Manchester United are poised to sign Nelson Semedo after coming to an agreement with Benfica.”
Semedo is a versatile talent. He is solid at the back and is also productive in the attacking third. So he will definitely be a brilliant long term replacement for Antonio Valencia.
This season so far, Semedo has featured in 31 games for his Primeira Liga side and has scored 2 goals with 7 assists. However, he has only played just one game for the senior national side which was back then in October 2015.
Though he has a release clause of €45million in his contract, Goncalo Lopes insisted that Man United will probably be luring him for a fee of £27million (I.e €31million).
“United wanted the right-back to join them this month but after Benfica rejected that approach they proposed a summer deal worth £27million” he stated.
