Experienced Chelsea defender Gary Cahill won’t be joining Italian Serie A side AC Milan when the transfer window reopens in the New Year according to reports coming out of Italy.
Cahill, 32, is said to be on the verge of leaving Chelsea but seven-time European champions AC Milan won’t be his next transfer destination.
According to the report from trusted Italian media portal calciomercato, AC Milan have cooled their interest in the recently retired England international.
The AC Milan defensive duo of Mattia Caldara and Mateo Musacchio are close to respective comebacks from injury.
Gary Cahill has been on fringes of the first team at Chelsea since new Blues boss Maurizio Sarri took charge of the team in the summer.
Since Sarri replaced compatriot Antonio Conte earlier this year, the 59-year-old tactician has opted for the centre-back partnership of Brazilian star David Luiz and German defender Antonio Rudiger.
The Englishman has already voiced out his frustration at the lack of first-team opportunities under Maurizio Sarri and that he might leave in January if his Chelsea playing status does not change.
He has been linked with several clubs both in the Premier League as well as the Championship.
Manchester United, AC Milan and Aston Villa are some of the clubs touted as possible transfer destinations for him.
