Southampton star defender Virgil van Dijk has broken the club’s heart by remaining adamant that he wants to make a move to Anfield this summer.

It is understood that the Saints thought the Dutchman would give up on a transfer after he was not included in their squad that traveled to France for their preseason training.

The skipper has been made to train alone by the club’s new boss Mauricio Pellegrino and the club management had planned a meeting to discuss with him if he was ready to focus all his attention on a new term with them.

But the Daily Echo are reporting that the Netherlands international remains adamant on his stance and still desire a summer move in their new meeting this week.

Van Dijk is understood to be keen to work under Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp after the German manager persuaded him to come play with him at Liverpool earlier in the summer, and the player will do all he can to force a move to Anfield.

Some weeks back, the reds were forced to issue an apology to Southampton after the Saints threatened to report them to the premier league for approaching the player illegally.

There have been peace between the two clubs after Jurgen Klopp’s side ended their interest in Van Dijk in their apology. However, Liverpool are still interested in securing the player’s signature before the end of the summer transfer window and the player appears destined to play at Anfield this season.

  1. Pretty Naive on their part then! It’s clearly no longer a question of whether he might leave, it’s how soon and just how painful Southampton want to make it for themselves. My advice take the money and invest you’ve already lost him!
