The England international joined Spurs from Sheffield United in the summer of 2009 and has since made 155 Premier League appearances for the north London side.

Walker, 26, becomes the seventh Tottenham player to extend his commitment this month, following Christian Eriksen, Harry Winks, Tom Carroll, Eric Dier, Danny Rose and Dele Alli.

“It’s a great honour,” Walker told Spurs TV. “I want to say a big thank you to the chairman and the manager for putting their faith in me.

“It’s been a long stay here but a very enjoyable one. I’m fully enjoying it. It’s like my second home now and I’m happy to commit my future to Tottenham Hotspur.”

And Walker believes that the current squad under boss Mauricio Pochettino has what it takes to bring silverware to the club.

“It’s a bright future for Tottenham. We’ve got a lot of young players and I’m one of the old heads and I have to take that on my shoulders,” he said

“I signed here to stay here. The fans have been fantastic. Now as players we have to drive into motion and get where we should be and hopefully win medals along the way.”

Walker’s recent form have seen him earned a regular spot for England, for whom he has 20 caps, and he started Sam Allardyce’s first game in charge against Slovakia three weeks ago.
