In this ongoing January winter transfer window, EPL giants Manchester United have sold players like Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin but have however not signed any key player yet.

Nevertheless, The Sunday Times reported recently that United boss Jose Mourinho is working to persuade the Man Utd board to secure at least one signing before the deadline officially ends tomorrow.

It was reported that the Old Trafford club inquired about signing the duo of Lindelof and Bakayoko this month, but the approaches were unfortunately rejected by both Benfica and Monaco. It is interesting to add that both clubs are presently leading their respective leagues at the moment.

Again, Ed Woodward believed that the duo of Bakayoko and Lindelof will come for cheap next summer. The Portuguese coach on his part has other ideas since he thinks the squad is lacking depth after selling the duo of Depay and Morgan. And as if that is not enough, another player in the person of Young could be heading out of Old Trafford as well.

Therefore Mourinho seriously needs more reinforcements especially if he should achieve the aim of getting a Champions League ticket for the club. Manchester United are still currently 6th in the table.

The Times additionally stated that impressive performances from the duo of Rojo and Jones reduced the need for a Central Back – which is the reason why Man United did not go all in for Lindelof.  Mourinho even still have players like Smalling, Bailly and Blind who can also play in the central defense as well – so Lindelof is seriously not needed for now.

It was however added that Mourinho’s priority would be signing a midfielder like Bakayoko. But so far, they have failed to agree a fee for the £40million rated Frenchman. And even as that, it is obvious that Monaco would not want to sell their star player that late in the window.
