Micheal Carrick: Why I’m Really Happy For This United Midfielder

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick singled out teammate Paul Pogba’s goal as a positive for Manchester United after his side reached the EFL Cup final on Thursday night despite a 2-1 loss at Hull City.

The Frenchman scored a second-half equaliser at the KCOM Stadium after manager Jose Mourinho brought on the world-record signing at half-time with Manchester United trailing 1-0 following Tom Huddlestone’s opener from the penalty spot.

The France international finished from close range after the former Tottenham midfielder inadvertently teed up the ex-Juventus star to put a finish past Hull City goalkeeper David Marshall midway through the second half.

Even though Oumar Niasse scored a late winner, Manchester United still edged through on aggregate that will bring about a final meeting with Southampton in the EFL Cup showpiece at Wembley next month.

Pogba has now scored seven goals in all competitions since this season as he continues to grow into his Manchester United career after a slow start.

Carrick speaking to Sky Sports on Thursday night, heaped praise on Pogba, expressing how pleased he was for Pogba to score.

“It was important we did score tonight, especially the way the game was going. It was a good finish from Paul, some good work down the left [from Marcus Rashford] and a good finish that put us in a good position.” Carrick said.
