Manchester United have set sights on closing a record deal for Paris Saint Germain defender Marquinhos, according to reports.

The Red Devils have not been convincing this summer despite making quality signings last summer, bringing Paul Pogba from Juventus on a world record deal among other vital acquisitions.

Manchester United are now ready to smash Chelsea’s transfer record for David Luiz, who paid £32million to sign the Brazilian defender, with reports that United are preparing a £60million bid to sign Marquinhos.

Reports in The Sport claim that the Red Devils have started talks with Paris Saint Germain with regarding a potential move Marquinhos.

It is understood that Barcelona are also considering a summer move for the 23-year-old defender, with reports that the Catalan giants are keen on having the Brazilian defender at the Camp Nou for the next decade but have not been able to match United’s enormous bid for the player.

Despite the reports over his future, Marquinhos had earlier dismissed suggestions that he will be leaving the Parc du Princes this summer, he said:

Jose Mourinho is believed to be keen on bringing Marquinhos to the Old Trafford this summer, as he hopes to bolster his defensive set-up this season, with reports that the Portuguese wants a young defender to replace the likes of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones, both of whom he openly criticized their commitment to the squad.
