Three-time European champions Manchester United are said to be considering an approach for Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic.

According to popular English news outlet Daily Mail, Manchester United have serious interest in the Croatian international player and they want to make a move for him.

It was also revealed that Italian Serie A giants Inter Milan are favourites for Rakitic who has a Barcelona contract that does not expire until the end of the 2020/21 campaign.

He could be linked up with international teammates Marcelo Brozovic and Ivan Perisic at Inter Milan.

Brozovic, Perisic and Rakitic played their respective parts as Croatia surprisingly reached the final of last summer’s FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia.

Croatia were beaten 4-2 by eventual champions France in the final of the competition.

Apart from Manchester United and Inter Milan, West London giants Chelsea are also keen on a move for Rakitic who’s rated at £34m ($45m).

Ivan Rakitic could be the direct replacement for Cesc Fabregas at Chelsea though it must be said that it might be difficult to sign the player after FIFA slapped a two-window transfer ban on Chelsea as punishment for breaching the rules on the signing of players that are under the age of 18.

Cesc Fabregas left Chelsea for French club AS Monaco last month.
