Liverpool Pessimistic About Star’s Signature, Man City Racing Ahead

22-year-old Benjamin Mendy is one of the stars at Monaco linked with a move away from the club this summer after an impressive campaign in the just concluded season.

Mendy has emerged as a target for both Man City and Liverpool and he is expected to make a move to the Premier League this summer.

And in a new development, there are reports that Liverpool believes they will lose out to Manchester City in the race to sign the player from his French club.

It is understood that Jurgen Klopp needs the Frenchman at Anfield to solve his dilemma at left-back once and for all.

However, Liverpool’s management are said to have now resigned themselves to the belief that the France international will opt to join Manchester City this summer.

A few days back, there were widespread speculations that Pep Guardiola’s side were closing in on a €45 million (£39.6m) deal for the player and have beat both Chelsea and Liverpool for him.

Liverpool could now focus on Algeria international Faouzi Ghoulam and are expected to get him from Napoli for a much cheaper fee than Mendy. Ghoulam has just one year remaining on his contract with the Italian club and is said to be available for around £17m.

Jurgen Klopp is keen on reinforcing his squad ahead of a busy campaign next season.
