Italian Serie A giants Inter Milan are plotting a move for Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic during this summer’s transfer window.

This is according to the latest reports emanating from the media in Italy.

Mateo Kovacic spent the entire season on loan at Chelsea from Spanish La Liga giants Real Madrid.

According to Calciomercato, Mateo Kovacic is one of three Real Madrid players being targeted by the new manager at Inter Milan alongside the likes of Nacho Fernandes and Marco Asensio.

The 25-year-old signed for the West London giants on loan last summer as part of the £35m deal that took Belgian international shot stopper Thibaut Courtois to Real Madrid.

Courtois left Chelsea for Real Madrid in 2018 with one year left on his then Blues contract.

Mateo Kovacic had a good season with Chelsea and the Croatian player is said to be open to the idea of staying at Stamford Bridge.

Any permanent transfer for him would be difficult with the Blues currently slapped with a two-window transfer ban though his loan deal could still be extended until the expiration of the ban next summer.

It must be pointed out that the transfer ban can still be lifted with the ban appeal hearing expected at CAS this summer.

Mateo Kovacic made two assists in 49 appearances for Chelsea during the just concluded campaign which ended with the Europa League title.
