Enrique Cerezo

Atletico Madrid club President Enrique Cerezo has finally said something about Griezmann’s potential move to Manchester United.

Cerezo said that he is going to fight to keep the French star at the club despite interest for the forward from numerous clubs, including Manchester United that are rumoured to be looking to sign the player with a potential €100 million bid that matches his release clause.

“There are many offers, I don’t know what will come of United’s interest. What I can say [though] is that Griezmann will be an Atlético player for a long time.” he said.

For the past six months or so, Antoine Griezmann has been linked with a move to Old Trafford. A.Madrid coach Diego Simeone has said he won’t tie the Frenchman down if he desires leaving. Nevertheless, club President Enrique Cerezo is confident that the Frenchman will stay in Madrid.

Many are of the opinion that Griezmann’s form has dipped. Last season for instance, 25-year old Griezmann scored 29 times and provided 6 assists in both competitions. This season however, he has been able to scored just 13 goals. Nevertheless, his manager Diego Simeone has said that it is only temporary.

However, his form  has not discouraged interest from many European clubs like Manchester City, Chelsea, Paris St-Germain, and of course, Manchester United.

This is definitely a transfer saga that could go on for a while. Griezmann perhaps desire leaving  in search of a fresh adventure in England,  but Atletico’s club President has unfortunately indicated that he will fight to keep him in the Madrid club.

As Jose Mourinho seeks to bolster his squad, Griezmann is obviously one of his primary targets. His friendship with Paul Pogba only aids their pursuit of the striker.
