Daniele Rugani

West London giants Chelsea could miss out on one of their transfer targets following the news that his club wants to offer him a new contract.

Juventus defender Daniele Rugani has been a long-term target for Chelsea dating back to when ex-Blues manager Antonio Conte was at the club before being sacked last summer.

The Chelsea transfer links continued into the managerial regime of Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri.

Italian media platform Calciomercato has confirmed that Juventus want to offer Daniele Rugani a new contract with a significant pay rise thus fending off the interest of the others including Chelsea.

The 24-year-old has played second fiddle to the centre back partnership of Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci at Chelsea this season.

Experienced duo Chiellini and Bonucci have played in most of the games for Juventus this term.

6ft 3in defender Rugani has played in just seven league games since the start of this season.

The Italian player initially joined Juventus in 2012 before he was loaned back to Empoli who had a co-ownership deal with the Old Lady for the player.

Rugani had to wait till the 2015/16 season before making his debut for Italian Serie A champions Juventus.

The centre back went on to make his debut for the Italian national team in 2016.
