Lyon defender Ferland Mendy will have a medical at Real Madrid this week ahead of his transfer to the Spanish La Liga giants this summer.

This is according to the publication from trusted Spanish newspaper AS which claimed that Real Madrid have reached an agreement with French Ligue 1 club Lyon over the signing of Ferland Mendy.

French international Ferland Mendy was previously linked with a move to the Premier League with clubs like West Brom and West London giants Chelsea but the 23-year-old is closing in on a transfer to Real Madrid.

Real Madrid want to provide competition for the aging Marcelo at left-back and Ferland Mendy has been identified as the man for the job.

Both Marcelo and Sergio Reguilon shared left-back duties at Real Madrid during the just concluded season but the latter is now expected to leave the club on loan this summer with the imminent arrival of Ferland Mendy.

Sergio Reguilon has been told by senior Real Madrid officials that he can leave the club this summer.

His replacement would be Ferland Mendy who has made 79 appearances for Lyon since joining Le Havre in 2017.

Ferland Mendy has made two appearances for the French national team since his debut in November.
