The job as a sporting director might have begun for former Man United defender Rio Ferdinand as he reportedly identified Norwich defender Ben Godfrey as the player his former team should sign in the coming summer transfer window.

Rio Ferdinand has been approached by Man United to take over the sporting director role which will have him supervise transfer activities with the coming summer transfer window as his likely first assignment.

British Media reports that Ben Godfrey is now a top target for the Red Devils as they hope to land more additions to the team ahead of the coming season.

It was a challenging season for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but he has been backed by the club to have a new start in the coming season with backing for top players.

Ben Godfrey has been impressive for Norwich this season and has scored 4 goals with two assists in 31 Championship games with his consistent performance as well.

However, he has been tipped to meet up with the level at Man United to be able to help the team challenge for titles as soon as the next season kick-starts.

Meanwhile, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been told that he would have £100 million backings to bring in players in the summer window.
