It appears Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United are not the only ones whose attention was caught by the splendid performances of Tottenham striker Harry Kane, but Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has also admitted his sight had been on the English forward for a long time.

The Italian manager has sensationally given hints that Kane would have been his preferred signing this summer instead of Alvaro Morata.

Chelsea were searching for a new striker for much of this summer after the manager told Diego Costa at the end of last season that he is not part of his plans at Stamford Bridge next term.

And while we all thought Belgian forward Romelu Lukaku is bound to make a return back to Stamford Bridge after being linked with the English champions for much of this summer, it was Manchester United who were able to persuade him to Old Trafford and secured his services.

Chelsea were then forced to open negotiations with Real Madrid for Alvaro, and the Spaniard moved to Stamford Bridge in a deal worth £70 million, making his first appearance for the blues in a friendly defeat against Bayern.

At the beginning of the summer transfer window while Chelsea were still heavily linked with Lukaku, there were some speculations that Conte was not interested in the Belgian, and that Lukaku was the choice of the club’s board.

Conte have preferred signing Harry Kane ahead of Morata.
