Chelsea is believed to be in a hunt for a tough defender to compete with Garry Cahill at the centre back position.

According to report from Premier Sport, Chelsea new boss Antonio Conte wants to sign AS Roma defender Antonio Rudiger in January.

The Italian tactician is looking forward to strengthen his back line and he will be willing to pay big fee to get the tough defender.

The 23-years old German star arrived Rome 2015 from VfB Stuttgart in a reported fee worth €13m. Since his arrival to Rome, the 6ft 3 tall star has been a key member to the starting team.

The versatile player can operate both as a full back and as a centre back.

Chelsea defensive duos  John Terry and Branislav Ivanovic are aging and they have just less than a year contract with the Blues. The duos have been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge in the winter transfer window.

Rudiger who is just 23-years old could serve as a long-term replacement for both Terry and Ivanovic, should Chelsea decides to let go their legends in January.

Should Roma be willing to let go their key defender in January, it is believed it will cost the Blues a fee around €30million to lure the star to Stamford Bridge.
