Chelsea Target Kalidou Koulibaly To Wait Until Summer For Transfer Due To AFCON

Napoli defender and Chelsea target Kalidou Koulibaly will not make his reported £50m move to the Stamford Bridge outfit as a result of the 2017 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Gabon, which coincides with the January transfer window, as per the report in The Sun.

The 25-year old centre back will feature for the West African nation of Senegal at the AFCON tournament thus likely putting an end to a January transfer move to English Premier League (EPL) leaders Chelsea due to the fact that he would be away with the Teranga Lions for many weeks.

2012 UEFA Champions League winners Chelsea are sceptical about a January move due to this reason factoring the possibility of picking up an injury as confirmed by a source to The Sun as follows:

“It is impossible for Koulibaly to go to Chelsea in January because of the African Cup of Nations.
“He is happy at Napoli, wants to stay there and likes it in Serie A.

“He won’t be sold until June.” the source concluded.
Kalidou Koulibaly was reported to be new Chelsea manager Antonio Conte’s first choice centre back transfer target during the summer however it seems it is only a matter of time before the former Siena and Juventus boss gets his man.
