Chelsea Set To Make Shocking Attempt For Liverpool Former Striker

Christian Benteke

Former Liverpool striker Christian Benteke has emerged as a target for Chelsea this summer, although it was emphasized that Chelsea boss Antonio Conte only want him as a second-choice striker in his squad ahead of a busy campaign next term.

Chelsea are yet to have a main man upfront ahead of next season after Conte told Diego Costa at the end of last season that he is not part of his plans at Stamford Bridge next term.

And despite that Romelu Lukaku was linked with the premier league champions for much of this summer, the west Londoners eventually missed out on him.

The Belgian who was thought to be interested in making a return back to Stamford Bridge chose to join Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United in a deal worth £75M.

In recent times, Chelsea have been strongly linked with the trio of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alvaro Morata, and Andrea Belotti as they are now forced to look elsewhere for a top striker.

Just yesterday, there were another report that the English champions have registered an interest in Argentine striker Sergio Aguero, even though Man City are very unlikely to sell him to a domestic rival.

The Daily Telegraph are reporting that the Chelsea boss is a fan of Crystal Palace striker Benteke and could launch a move for the former Liverpool player, but that he would be seen as a back-up to another top attacker.
