Chelsea Getting Closer To Sign Superb Defender, Held Meeting With Agent In London

Leonardo Bonucci

Juventus star player Leonardo Bonucci has emerged as a target for Chelsea this summer, and it appears the premier league champions are really serious about his signature.

In a new development, reports from Italy reveals the Stamford Bridge club have held talks with the defender’s agent in London over a summer deal for the player.

La Stampa are reporting that Leonardo’s representative Alessandro Lucci was in London last week and met with Chelsea officials and the Blues are ready to submit a €55 million (£48.6m) offer for the Italy international.

The 30-year-old has been one of Antonio Conte’s long-term targets since his arrival at Chelsea last year. Both have worked together back then at Juventus and even in the Italian national team.

Last month, there were speculations that Conte has asked the management to sign the Juventus centre-back this summer and that he will be offered a personal deal that will see him go home with £7 million in a year.

It is however understood that Chelsea are not the only Premier League club interested in him, but Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City have been monitoring his activities at Turin.

But Chelsea may have the edge over Man City considering Conte’s relationship with Juventus (having won some silverware for them) and with Bonucci himself.
