Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger called football agent to express interest in Russian youngster Aleksandr Golovin, according to reports.

The 21-year-old has attracted interest from several clubs in Europe due to his impressive displays with CSKA Moscow, churning out promising displays since he broke into the first team in 2015 and has gone on to net six goals in 70 appearances despite playing from the central midfield.

Golovin has also cemented a starting spot in the Russian national team and was part of the squad that played at the Euro 2016 and also made it to the FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia in June.

Prior reports suggested that Arsenal were close to the signature of the midfielder and has even agreed to a deal that will see Golovin remain with CSKA Moscos on a season loan.

Russian football agent Sandor Vagra has now revealed that Arsene Wenger called him to scout Golovin during the Confederations Cup.

He said:  ‘Arsene Wenger called me and asked me to watch Golovin again.

‘He was going to come but his scout in Russia sent him 6 to 8 positive reports and so he asked me to watch him instead.’

Arsenal are moving fast on their transfer targets this summer but  will have to beat Chelsea to the signature of Golovin, following reports that the Blues have held talks to sign the midfielder
