Domenico Berardi

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has told the club he wants Sassuolo striker Domenico Berardi, according to reports.

Reports in La Repubblica have it that the Blues are considering a transfer for the 22-year-old after the Italian boss asked the board to try sign him at the end of the season, after sending scouts to monitor Berardi’s progress.

However, Juventus have an edge in a potential deal for the Sassuolo star with an option to sign him for €25 million amidst reports of interest from AC Milan, Roma and Inter.

The Italian striker turned down the chance to play for Juve two years ago because he wanted to get regular playing time. Berardi has been side-lined by a knee injury, making just six appearances in the Serie A but his record of 40 goals in 96 appearances has set him aside as one of the hottest youngsters in Italy.

The 22-year-old’s arrival at the Stamford Bridge could signal the end of the road for Michy Bathsuayi who has been pegged back in the pecking order due to the brilliant form of Diego Costa which has sparked speculations that the 23-year-old could leave Chelsea in search of first team opportunities if his situation does not improve at the end of the Premier League season.
