Chelsea have opened talks to sign Schalke defender Sead Kolasinac, according to reports.

Reports in the Italian Outlet Calcio Mercato claims that the Blues have moved ahead of Juventus in the race to sign the 23-year-old defender.

Kolasinac has been linked with an exit from the Bundesliga side with his current deal set to expire at the end of the season and could be available on a free transfer.

However, it is understood that Juventus have had an agreement in principle with the player But Antonio Conte wants to beat his former side to the signing to the defender.

Speaking at a press-conference, Conte revealed his intentions to buy players before the end of the current window.

He said: “”I don’t know what will happen but the club know my thoughts on this. If we stay with these players then I’m happy, too. I think we need to improve our squad in the number of players, I think it is only this.”

Reports also have it that Schalke is not ready to lose the player in January despite the possibility of losing him on a free transfer. After rejecting Juventus’ initial offer of £4.2m to sign Kolasinac as they search for a replacement for Patrice Evra who joined Marseille earlier this month.
